April, 2009 Archives

When I post my macro photos on flickr, I get asked a lot about the lens I use and if I recommend it.  I use the 100mm 2.8 macro from Canon.  I like the fact that I don’t have to get right up close to any ‘creepy’ or ’stinging’ bugs but can if I want to.  It has autofocus and although it can sometimes ‘hunt’ for your subject, it’s a nice sharp and easy to use lens.

At one time I did rent the infamous MPE-65 lens to try it out.  It does NOT have auto-focus but you can shoot up to 5x life-size with that lens.  You do really need a macro ring flash with that lens (especially if you want to shoot over 2x life-size) which I didn’t have and really didn’t want to also invest in.  It was certainly fun to use but was a little too much for me.  The 100mm macro suits me better.  But if you’d like to see the images I took with the MPE-65, just click HERE for the set on flickr.

Here’s a few pictures from this past weekend taken with the 100mm 2.8 macro.

Check out the reflection of the plant in the Ladybug’s back, I just love that!

Yesterday I finally got to put all my studio equipment to use for the first time.  I say ‘first time’ because I was taking pictures of people other than my husband for ‘testing’ the lighting set up.

This is Chris, he’s an aspiring chef who is already cooking at a local country club.  He kept telling me his own personal recipes as we were doing the shoot and it was making me hungry!

It’s interesting how he comes up with recipes, he said that he can ‘taste’ the recipe in his mind just like as a photographer I can see the shot in my mind that I want to get.

Here’s a few of his shots below, you can click each photo to view it larger on my flickr stream.
