Living In The Boondocks

When you live in the boondocks (like us)… it’s definitely a different experience….

It can be beautiful

It can be creepy (till you learn who is dangerous and who is not)

I’m not talking turtle slow…I mean internet slow.  When we first moved here several years ago, our only option was Hughesnet (satellite internet)…and it was horrible.  When it worked, it worked great…but if it rained the internet went out, in the evenings the internet was slow.  And customer service? Oh gosh don’t get me started on that!  Then, we tried wireless internet.  You know, those little sticks that plug into the USB port on your computer?  Wireless was better, but still nothing like DSL.  You just didn’t have that constant internet hook up.  It would go down, it would go back up, it would go down, and so on….

And then, it happened.  DSL has come to the boondocks!  We just had a phone line installed the other day.  Yes, you read that right, we JUST got a phone line installed.  We never had a land line out here.  Never needed one.  We had cell phones and wireless internet, so why bother?  Ok, back to the DSL… it’s installed and it’s WONDERFUL.  Tonight we picked up a wireless router.  So now, when we’re at home, I can be on the PC and my husband can be on the laptop in the other room.  We can even sit on the deck and use the laptop.  Also, our iphones get Edge service out here.  In town and where we work they get 3G, but out here it’s Edge.  With our DSL and wireless router the iphones now have Wi-Fi at home!

It’s so lovely!  Even after having to wait years for all of this internet goodness, I still wouldn’t trade living here for anything else in the world!
