free download: flickr cover template

If you haven’t noticed (or haven’t heard people on facebook talking about it) Flickr has re-done their website.  Bigger photos, a free terabyte of space and more.  They have also updated your own page where you can add a cover photo (just like Facebook and Google+).  You can choose from one of your own photos or you can create your own customized image to upload.  I created my own template to use on my page but I’ve also made it available for you to download and use as well.

It’s in layered .psd format, which means you’ll need Photoshop to work on this template.  You’ll also need to understand how to use clipping masks.  If you’re not sure how to use a clipping mask in Photoshop, check out this tutorial HERE for more information.

free download: nik silver efex preset

Today I have a preset for use in Nik Silver Efex, it works well on most photos including wildlife and landscapes.  I created this preset myself in Nik Silver Efex and find myself using it on quite a few photos and wanted to share it with you.  Please remember that no one preset will ever work on every photo you take but it’s a good starting point to get the look you want.  There’s a text file included with a link on how to install presets into Nik software if you’re unsure of how to do it.

Pet Peeve

One thing that drives me nuts about facebook is how photos look after you’ve uploaded them.  Washed out, noise where there wasn’t noise in the original image, and just generally bland looking.  I don’t understand why they can’t get our images to look as good as they do on flickr, 500px or our own personal websites.  We all know facebook is continually upgrading and changing things around, I just don’t get why they can’t upgrade their photo quality.

For awhile now I’ve been searching off and on through various blogs and tutorials on what the best way to edit a photo for facebook is..trying out all sorts different ways to no avail, but I think I’ve found the answer.  Uploading that photo as a png and NOT a jpg like we usually do...

free download: google plus template

I saw that google had upgraded the google plus cover image so that it’s larger, I decided to change mine and created a template out of it for you to download.  This is in layered psd format which will only work in photoshop.  You should understand clipping masks to use this template.
