She Turned Ten Years Old Yesterday

Peanut-buttery Goodness

Our Great Dane, Duchess turned ten years old yesterday.  I know for average and small sized dogs that’s not a big milestone…but for a giant breed dog…it’s huge.  She’s all white (with two small spots on her body) so you can’t see how completely white with gray hairs her muzzle would be.  Her breath stinks, her back end is weak, she slobbers more in her old age, but she keeps going strong and we love her dearly.

Duchess

She’s not fast enough to chase the wild rabbits in the yard, she can’t keep up with our other Great Dane, Earl… but she is happy doing what she does best….eating, snacking on carrots, trying to steal a lick of soda from our glass, sleeping in the sunshine as it streams through the front windows, and snuggling with us at night when we watch TV.

Give me carrot!

We adopted her when she was four years from The Humane Society of Broward County.  At the time I worked there as a vet tech and owned one other Great Dane (Gunther, who passed away last summer) and I fell in love with her.  I remember the day my husband brought Gunther in to the shelter to meet her for the first time to make sure they got along.  Gunther thought he’d found heaven in Duchess!  He was in love.  She got spayed, tattooed and we brought her into our lives.

Gunther & Duchess

I miss Gunther terribly….not a day goes by I don’t think of him.  Earl, our Dane pup (he’ll be one year old in a few days!) reminds me so much of Gunther with the way he looks at me, and wants to snuggle with me.  Of course Earl is WAY more active, braver and actually smarter than Gunther was so he’s filled Gunther’s shoes and then some.

Hurry Up Duchess, There's Something Following You

I don’t think I will ever be able to be without a Great Dane in my life since having these three.  They are amazing.  Of course I don’t think I’ll ever have more than two at a time!

Happy Birthday Duchess!

*You might be wondering why her name is spelled wrong.  Normally you’d spell Duchess with a ‘t’ after the ‘u’.  But, that’s how it was spelled on her paperwork when she was surrendered to the Humane Society, so I felt the need to keep it spelled that way ;-)

sales and new products for The Drop Shoppe

Hello everyone!

At The Drop Shoppe we want to provide our customers with the most affordable backdrops and largest sized backdrops out of all the backdrop companies that sell them online. Currently we only sell matte vinyl backdrops but we are working closely with several companies and testing different backdrop materials that have NO GLARE to find the best possible reflection-free computer printed backdrop options for you!  We should have more news on this new material in the next two weeks.  Offering the no glare option is a done deal,…we are just testing samples from different companies to see who can print our designs the BEST for you and will announce when this option is available on our facebook fan page and on the main page of the store.
We are also looking into offering you other backdrop options and need to hear from YOU!

We’d like to hear what you think of being able to purchase our designs on HAND PAINTED muslin, canvas and even the collapsible and popular 5′x7′ Twistflex backdrops. We guarantee that if we do sell these products that our prices will be LESS than you’ve seen these types of backdrops offered for in the past!  We understand in this economy that money is tight.  To expand your photography business you need to provide unique options for your clients especially when the weather is bad or just too hot to be outside shooting.  We want to offer backdrop options for when you go on location to a client’s home, quick and easy backdrops that work in ANY LIGHTING including natural light, portable backdrop options that can easily fold up and fit in any size car, don’t wrinkle and are just the BEST and most UNIQUE designs you can find.
We are especially excited about the Twistflex Backdrops.  These backdrops collapse down into a small and portable size.  You can hang them on a backdrop stand or you can just lean them against a wall!  These are PERFECT if you go into clients’ homes to do newborn photography.  Pop up your backdrop in seconds, lean it on your client’s wall and get to shooting.
We want to hear YOUR opinions on hand painted products such as twistflex, muslin and canvas before we take the leap into ordering these.  Scroll down on how you can quickly give us your opinions and feedback.

The Drop Shoppe Workshop

This past weekend (April 16th) we had a wonderful photography workshop in Fort Myers, Florida.  We invited several photographers to come out and photograph models that we provided on various backdrops we offer for sale from The Drop Shoppe.

We all had a fantastic time and I know that the photographers left with hundreds of great images.  How do I know?  Because they’ve been posting their beautiful work on our facebook fan page.  For a direct link to view their photos you can click HERE (see: photos and videos of the drop shoppe album).

I can’t thank the photographers and the three photographers/assistants who helped out enough, everyone had fun and twords the end of the day we even drove in our 1965 Comet Caliente convertible and photographed that on one of our 10′x8′ backdrops!

Here’s some photos I took (pull-back shots) of our photographers and models in action.  You may see studio strobes in these images but they weren’t used, everyone actually used natural light on all the photos you’ll view on the fan page!

All of the backdrops were put on the wall using just thumbtacks!  Each backdrop we sell comes with a 1″ white border around it, perfect for sticking your thumbtacks into.  Or, you can just clamp the drops right to your backdrop stand.  There’s so many ways to hang these, we preferred to go with the thumbtack method for the day of the workshop because it gave us more space without bulky backdrop stands.

We also used several backdrop ‘floors’ as well.  To make a nice, smooth and natural transition from the ‘wall’ backdrop to the ‘floor’ backdrop we just used wood baseboards.  You can find all sorts of decorative baseboards at your local home improvement store.

Here’s the convertible car we used, which belongs to my husband and I.  It’s a LARGE car and you can tell how big it is because the backdrop hung up behind it is actually 10 feet long!  The photographers were really able to make the car and backdrop work so well with the models,  there’s some beautiful images coming out of this workshop!

Another absolutely fun and perfect prop we used was a classic Vespa scooter we borrowed from a friend.  It was so cute and worked so well on the backdrops, it was the perfect size!

I’ll leave you with a couple really cute shots from one of the photographers, Marni Bellavia of two of the models we had there :)
